Schizophrenia Research: Pharmacological and Behavioral Approaches

Schizophrenia Researchers in the Department are developing novel pharmacological treatments and cognitive remediation for schizophrenia in order to improve quality of life and shorten hospital stays. These studies work with patients with profound levels of illness, and represent efforts both in research and treatment to aid the severely and persistently mentally ill with effective humane treatment. New cognitive behavioral therapy approaches for psychosis which our researchers are studying have immediate and exciting uses in the field. Novel behavioral modification programs and memory enhancement techniques have been used to help patients with chronic psychotic disorders transition into less restrictive settings.
