Director:
Scott S. Campbell, PhD
Dr. Campbell received his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Florida in 1981, under the supervision of Professor Wilse B. Webb. He completed post-doctoral fellowships at Harvard Medical School (J. Allan Hobson and Robert McCarley), the Max-Planck Institute for Psychiatry in Munich, Germany (Hartmut Schulz), and the University of California, San Diego (J. Christian Gillen and Daniel F. Kripke) prior to receiving a research faculty appointment at UCSD in 1986.
In 1990, Dr. Campbell joined the faculty of Cornell University Medical College, where he is currently Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry. He was named Director of the LHC in 1992. From 1996 to 2000, Dr. Campbell was also the Director of the Institute for Circadian Physiology, an independent, non-profit research institute based in Boston, MA. The mission of the Institute was to develop and implement countermeasures against fatigue and reduced alertness and performance associated with shift work operations. In 2000, the Institute was dissolved and its operations were formally integrated with the Laboratory of Human Chronobiology.
Associate Director:
Patricia J. Murphy, PhD
Dr. Murphy received a PhD in Experimental Psychology from Bowling Green State University in Ohio in 1995. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Laboratory of Human Chronobiology in 1997. Currently, she is an Associate Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry, and Associate Director of the Laboratory. Together with the laboratory's Director, Scott S. Campbell, PhD, Dr. Murphy continues to conduct research studies examining diverse topics in humans of all ages, with and without sleep and circadian rhythms disturbance.
