Residency Application Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply to your residency training program?
We accept applications through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application System). No paper applications will be accepted.

What is the deadline for completed applications?
The deadline for completed applications is October 15th.

Do you have a board score requirement?
No, all applications are reviewed independently.

How many positions do you have available?
We offer 10 PGY-1 positions in the match.

When do you interview applicants applying for the positions?
We interview applicants on Mondays and Tuesdays from November through January. We do not interview during the weeks of Christmas and New Year's.

How do I sign up for a psychiatry elective?
Medical students interested in Electives and Subinternships should apply through VSAS, the Visiting Student Application Service. Access to VSAS can be found at the College's webpage for Visiting Students.

Does your program review applications from individuals who have completed a prior residency?
Yes.

What is the department's policy on IMGs (International Medical Graduates)?
The department does not provide sponsorship or pay for visas. All IMGs must have a current ECFMG certificate. We accept J1 visas.

Do you have any PGY2 transfer positions?
We generally have one to two PGY2 transfer positions per academic year. Interested applicants should email a letter and curriculum vitae to the residency coordinator, Jackie Sternberg at jas2021@med.cornell.edu.
